  • Still Pulling to the left!

    Afternoon me harties!

Further to my previous post a while back, my poor wee truck is still pulling to the left. Yesterday it was taken to Farmers in Edinburgh who are expert 4x4 tracking specialists. They tried 4 different settings, the last and the one it is currently set at is as for a KZN130 4Runner. It still pulls to the left (albeit a bit less) and they are not going to bill the dealer who sold me the truck as it didn't leave their place 100% fixed. Nice of them.

They did discover something else which makes me think it is a more serious problem.

If you sit on a dead flat bit of tarmac and reverse without holding the steering wheel , the truck starts to reverse o the left and the steering wheel spins through nearly a full half turn. Is this possible due to a miss aligned back axel or sommat like that, or is this par for the course for a Surf?

Any advice from any of you will be greatly appreciated.

    I is confusticated innit!

Thanks for getting me worried about my surf !
Mine also tends to pull a little to the left, but not all the time.
I had just put it down to big tyres and excessive road camber being a newbie surfer that's converted from a coupe with low profiles.

It should run straight and true. Check all your steering components, especially the drag link and wheel bearings.

How are the front CV gaiters, grit in one will make the CV jam are turn the steering slightly.

The rear axle is unalterable, as long as all the link arm bushes are OK, it'll be fine.

Jack the front up and make sure both wheels spin freely after pressing the brakes. You may have sticky brake pistons

Thanks for that. My dad is over visiting from OZ this week-end, looks like there is some cool boys stuff in store. I'll let you know how I get on.

If your 'toy' has been lifted, and the panhard bar hasn't been moved/adjusted... that might also contribute.
