blowing smoke !!!!

HELP.. I hope someone can tell me if this is usual. On sharp acceleration my surf td is blowing loads of smoke, til it reaches cruising speed or I ease off. then it clears and nothing can be seen.

should add this is my first diesel, 4x4 and auto still learning how to drive it

yeh its common in diesels and very common in surfs, try a full bottle of diesel injector cleaner which you add to a quarter tank of diesel, then take it for a good hot run for an hour, redex is used by many on the forum, wynn's is tipped to be great stuff but not widely available, best results can be had by taking your fuel filter off, empty out the contents on your neighbours cat, fill it (the filter not the cat) with a bottle of injector cleaner, refit and take it for a spin

Its not the end of the world, Could be grubby inside, run a bottle of redex or similar though it, and give it a good blast up the motorway.

Has it been serviced lately (not just the dealer saying they have done it, they rarely do) new fuel and air filters plus cleaning the crud outta the intake may also help.

I assume it's been serviced, ie new air and fuel filters?
With the auto box, the engine rarely gets chance to rev. Give it a good blast on the motorway with the OD off for a while, in ect pwr mode. See if that clears it's throat. Does the trick for me.

There is only one real cure for this problem, which is not unique to surfs, it is common across the board, with the lower aimed for combustion temperatures you will always get black smoke syndrome which is actually soot residue,,,

The cure

Have your rear windows Limo tinted and you will never see smoke again,

Get some engine oil flush and flush the engine out. Refil with fresh oil and new filter, new air filter and new fuel filter. Then get an 8 treatment bottle of Diesel Redex from Halfrauds and stick the whole bottle in. Then give the truck a good thrashing. Power button switched on and overdrive off will give you lots of high end revs. This should clean your engine out a treat.

I've just changed the oil on my Hilux today and the old stuff looked ancient and very black, a bit got on my hand and it was like indian ink. I was wondering about engine oil flush, are they any good and can you recommend any?

I will also try this redex treatment for the injectors with a new fuel filter..
