  • gen 3 choppy ride

I was out in my Mk4 Hilux this morning and noticed how much smoother the ride is in comparison to my gen 3. What will cure the harsh choppy ride? is it he shockers which look to be original 1996 parts or the springs also original or a combination of both? If I change the front shockers It would be easy to change the springs at the same time but then I would have to do the rears as well. Any suggestions?

I've been thinking the same thing, my 3rd Gen is quite harsh, great for playing on country lanes, but overall too uncomfy.

Maybe we should catch up over the weekend for a comparison!

Are they lifted or altered? Are you running factory tyre sizes?

The ride isn't that great, and it tends to get worse once you start messing with height!

Its completely boggo! my Colorados were completely different much smoother, I have noticed however there are witness marks on the back axle casing under the bump stops which suggests to me that the rear springs are a tad on the weak side.

Well the suspension is to all intents and purposes the same, but the shock and spring rates are different. I guess as the surf was aimed at the "more sporty" market they gave it a firmer ride, combined with the larger body weight of the land cruiser stabilising things.

Annoyingly all the after market stuff seems to make everything firmer still!

Sounds about right as the colly is a fair bit heavier. I need stiffer springs on the back as I carry extra weight on a daily basis so I thought about a complete upgrade front and back, if I lift it a bit I can get some bigger tyres on as well both of these will give a bit more ground clearance on the lanes near us. I like the look of the Toytec kit whats the cost?

The Toytec "Boss" Kit cost me $1,887.43 shipped, plus uk customs tax

That was with the 550 lb coils (Should have got 500) OME rear coils and Bilstein rear shocks. I also got the adjustable upper arms.
