  • No 4wd??

Can you lovely people help me troubleshoot my 4wd not engaging?

I have freewheeling hubs on a 2nd Gen but have checked every variation ie locked/unlocked h4/l4 etc it seems that the 4wd itself is not engaging rather than an issue with the hubs
The 4wd button clicks on and can hear the second click after the initial click of the button and the 4wd light comes on and doesn't flash

I've heard of checking vac pipes but I dunno where these are, also where is the 4wd fuse?

    Thanks in advance
    Alex
    Yes it's a V8, don't you know I'm loco?

    Hi,

It could be a number of things. My old 2nd gen had a similar problem but its so long ago I dnt remeber what the fix was. Worth doing a good search on here. Also try contacting the seller, Is it an ebay one? Previous owner might know what the issue is.

    Cheers

With Gen 2's not able to run in 4x4 mode on road/hard surfaces (unlike most 3rd Gens) make sure free wheeling hubs are in the locked position.
Ya may need to move forward in a straight line a meter or two & also in reverse with the 4x4 button pressed in. Check to see if ya have 4 wheel drive ..
Or search for Vacuum pipes ....
        Good Luck

        15+ Years of Surfs .... n Faultless to a "T" is my Yota !! So I got another ....

Not seen any messages Alex, and you have no vacuum pipes to the front Diff as the ADD removal mod was done before it came to me originally.

Yea I thought the mod may have been done as I saw Vince's write up and thought it sounded like something that would be done with the transplant

Have u got any ideas then?

              Cheers

Is motor on transport box getting power, has collar used for mod slipped and shafts disengaged.
Does front drive shaft engage when 4wd engaged ?

Hard to diagnose without crawling under it and checking the above to start.

Not very far bud, I was running out of daylight the other day but managed to figure out the locking hubs are working as they should, so it's either the ADD unit or the transfer box, I got under the truck and looked up and jus didn't have a clue wat I was looking at other than a big automatic transmission Hahaha there not my strong point

I may have to get TonyN to look at it when he swaps my diffs in about a month
