  • CV boot changing and ball joint spacers

    Hi all,

I have just taken calipers off and have stripped ready to be rebuilt, just waiting on new pistons. I noticed while working on jeep all cv boots have split so going to do that at same time, my question is what things will I need other than the boots themselves, is there any snap rings or gaskets I will need to replace when it's apart?

I have lifted the front by almost 2" to match the 2" rear springs i put on, no other mods...do I need to fit the ball joint spacers in the front to prevent the cv joints splitting or will they be ok without?

    Any help appreciated :-)

Any advice regarding if the ball joint spacers are required would be appreciated. I haven't had the chance to do the boots yet, I had it in 4wd the other day and there was quite a bit of clicking...are my cv joints likely to be needing replaced?

Am I ok to still use it this weekend for a 200 mile round trip and not use 4wd, am I right I thinking that leaving it in 2wd means it shouldn't be putting strain on cv joints?

i just used the alloy spacers ones from ebay to space the ball joints
made my own anti roll bar spacers and diff drop space to help cv joint
but still be better if i fit manual locking hubs on the front

dont get the ones by well spaced on ebay.

        Thanks for the reply ;-)

I've spotted the ones on ebay before...don't think the seller had anything to do with well spaced?

It's going back together the way it is for the moment and I will see how quick they wear...just got new cv joint delivered yesterday!
