  • mot brake problems

Hi guys, 3rd gen 3.0td has failed on brakes. Are there any common faults with these? Brakes felt very spongy on the way back from purchasing (I knew about it) needs New front hoses which I've bought, has uneven braking at the front, probably leaking rear cylinder(s) he says he can pump the pedal to make them better, but says it could be brake booster, but hopefully not.
    U guys got any advice?

replace the faulty lines, try bleeding then if no joy, look at the master & slave brake cylinder for leaks.

Why's he saying look at the rear then? The handbrake efficiency is apparently bad tho so new rear shoes he thinks

So, paid the garage £300 in labour for the brakes 3 weeks ago, and now the rear passenger side is smoking. Can't believe it. I shoulda just done the job myself, as now I'm gonna be doing it again anyway! 😠
Wonder if it'll have burnt through the brand new shoes and I'll need more eh.....
What's the likely cause? Piston sticking? Broken main spring?

That's what mine does after letting a main dealer loose on it.
It's going to cost a new drum on mine and that's just for starters.
When / if I'm ever allowed to find out exactly how they goofed it up, I'll let you know.

Craig, On my 3rd gen the passenger side handbrake has a tendency to stick on. Get underneath it, pull the handbrake cable that runs between the rear wheels and youll likely see the driver side clevis pin / bell crank pulling out then releasing while nothing happens on passenger side as its already out and failed to release from last use. Ive stripped my rear brake comonents entirely, scrubbed, cleaned, lightly oiled the bell crank, made sure that the return spring springs and its all been dandy, then 3- 4 months later I find it sticking again. Youll eventually get a feel for when it happens from the feel of the handbrake. Mostly its not really seized on, its just not released fully. Once the sun shines I,ll have it all apart again and get this bell crank polished up so that theres no rough surfaces and it can slide freely through the rubber boot. I,ll probably try to get new springs too, I guess they lose something over the years. See image 5 on page below

Cheers that's really helpful that ! Could I replace the cylinder without taking the whole lot to bits ? If so I'll defo do it myself. If not, I may do it myself.
              Meanwhile check this out....
              First class work this....

I thought maybe they'd put new pistons in the cylinder, but then I saw the cheapness of the whole cylinder....
              £5 each

Question is what do I do now....
Fix it myself or tell them to do it free(already paid for obviously)
