  • Newbee prop shaft advice

    Mornin' all.

This is my first post on this lions den! Take it easy........

I have just picked up my second Surf which is a KZN130 (previous one was KZN185 with a cracked head).

I bought it on eBay with a missing prop shaft. I have one with the fitting bolts now and would like any helpful advice any of you could offer for me to fit later. What to grease locktight the bolts, I guess it bolts on as you offer it up?

    Cheers,

    Nick.

If you're talking about the rear prop shaft, there are a couple of checks before fitting:

Check the Universal joints are tight, with no slop. If there is some movement that should not be there, swap the spiders. They will only vibrate and get worse.

The prop shaft can be split on the sliding splines. Make sure that the yokes at each end of the shaft are in the same line (called in phase). If they are out of phase, you will get horrible vibration.

I just used an ordinary grease, the joints won't get hot. Don't overdo the splined joint, if you pack the void at the end of the sliding shaft, it will prevent telescopic movement.

Other than that, it is an easy fit.
