  • Torsion bars

Fitted new heavy duty springs today and although sided, the drivers is still slightly lower but at least no more sag!

Went to adjust torsion bars as drivers front a lot lower and had to wind it up quit abit to get her lever again.

Problem Im having is when I go to tighten the locknuts at the top they just keep turning, there not locking if that's correct..

Can someone please advise, I'm I having a daft moment!

Right, I did some more searching on the site but most Links are dead, from what I can gather, the top but is not a locker but then what stops it all from coming loose?

I'm assuming the sag is from all the weight on the drivers side weakening the torsion bar on that side, but even with the sided springs and and almost empty tank, the drivers side is about and inch lower?

Sorry for all the questions but this sagging is kinda getting old haha!

There is no locking nut. Just wind the bolt. It does take a fair few winds to do anything.

Try winding your passenger side down slightly. Think of it a bit like a kitchen chair with a short leg rocking and you'll get the idea. Its a 3D system
Raising one affects the others. Deffo sure you got the handed springs in the right way?

        Thanks for the input!

Yeah I double checked before I fitted them and even gave roughtrax a call to confirm fitment,

It's almost level now but I had to wind drivers torsion bar about 10mm and didn't touch the passengers!

Still the back is now about and 1.5" higher as apposed to 2" below lol

Don't worry, it'll sag in time!
Joking aside they do settle after a bit, so I'd leave them for a while.
I like the forward rake look. Much better than SAS

Is it common to have the drivers torsion sag?

If so am I better replacing both than try winding the drivers one up to match?

Don't want the front equal because as you said it will settle but I hate the fact the drivers side still lower!

I was on about the rear springs sagging...

...however, not heard of one TB sagging more than the other to be honest... has it always been like that?
It may just have been badly adjusted in the past?
Check the bump stop clearances on both sides to make sure it is just the torsion bar affecting the stance.

If you do replace, I would not recommend the heavy duty versions unless you have a winch bumper AND a winch...

On that note I will check the gap clearance tomorrow, I'm all honestly I just wound the drivers torsion bar to match the passengers ( measured from top lip of rim to bottom wheel arch ) but this has resulted in loads of winding on that side.

Triple checked the springs and there on correctly, parts numbers and taller defo on drivers side.

It's always sat low on that side and I just put it down to a saggy rear springs.

When I done the 4 wheel alignment the passengers side would not align in regards to Camber/caster. It's visualy in at the top too. New bushes all round. I'm beginning to think there's something wired going on with my truck lol

                Tomorrow's another day!

Well after your advice on checking the bump stop gap, with the truck lever both sides the drivers torsion is wound up about 5mm more and subsequently that side top bump stop is almost touching, so far now I've reset it to match the other the other side in regards exposed thread.

Alignment is miles out again after messing with torsion but on the plus side after replacing the lower ball joints today both wheels are sitting at correct camber, small victory lol

After reading loads of old threads a lot of folk even after fitting new springs found the drivers side slightly lower..

                  Joys of motoring eh!

                    Just an update.

After letting it settle for a couple days I re adjusted the torsion but still had to have the drivers one wound more to get it level. Plus side as I said meant that the camber came into spec as even adjusting the camber/caster bolts did not do much.

Finally got the steering wheel straight. Set the toe to spec then adjusted each side a quarter turn in same direction thus keeping total toe the same!
