  • Inside Fuel Filter on Veggie

Only had the Surf for about 6 months so doing some of the maintenance jobs for the first time. I had quiet a lot of brown gunk in the bottom of the bowl strainer which was already fitted to the car so, as I am currently running a 50/50 Veg/diesel mix, thought I would clean it out and fit a new fuel filter. Thought I'd have a look inside the filter which has been in the car about 8000 km's. (see pic)

Not as bad as I expected but you can definitely see the deposits on the filter paper. Thought I would post up as I couldn't find anything on this as I was searching.

I also noticed (see picture) that the sensor on the bottom had the wire cut? Can anyone tell me what this would do and if its a problem not being connected?

Truck all back together and seems to run fine.

    Appreciate any comments,

    Thanks Nick

The wires are for the water sensor - they will just make a warning light on your dash come on if there is water in the bottom of the filter.

Thanks for the info Weasel, that thread is a good read and I will add my comments as I have a bit longer under my belt.

Missed the opportunity to run the Forte diesel treatment straight into the filter so think I will run one in quarter tank like was suggested.

Trying to fabricate something that will allow me to put 20 litre plastic veggie drums from Costco straight into the tank without needing my wife to hold a large funnel, any ideas?

These are great. Been using one for a year or so and it's no where near as messy as pouring.

Get a couple of metres of great big reinforced clear pipe as well, shove it down the filler pipe as far as it can go and it takes a minute or so to pump 25ltrs.

I use one of these with a piece of wire tied around the little handle n the fuel flap for security, what ever the container size... (20 ltrs under 5 mins) n always kept in a cubbyhole in the Truck.....
