  • Loss of power

    Hi
having a bit of a problem when I put my foot down I
    get a lose of power 3.0L GEN 3 1996 .
I have changed all filters + oil change wondered if there
was an in tank filter or something ,if so can I get to it
    to clean it , !!!!
or is there a more sinister problem looming
    fuel pump / engine .

    cheers
    Nigel

have you changed the transmission oil? check the brakes are not binding? Try pulling the fault codes if any are logged.

managed to find out how to get fault codes
and if i'm doing it right the code is 14 that is flashing,
theres a flash a pours then 4 flashes. this is what I found
when I downloaded the 1KZ-TE engine manual . I did
change filters as soon as I could , the engine light has come on
once moor since so I don't think it can be the filter it seems
to only do it when I boot it foot to the floor not that often but
some drivers you just have to get past.
will have to cheque the timing control valve as it shows further in the
      manual.

Looks like you've been there yourself BUSHWHACKER

never put old oil in / only new out of the tin.

          2 heat exchangers
2 surf fuel filters / one for derv - one for SVO
2 transfer valves for switching fuel and purging
serviced regularly oil+filters have neglected transmission thou
as you may gather, its my first auto and still learning!!!!

so it looks like that could be my problem cr##p in the pump
must give you 10/10 for your informative photos. it would make
sense as it wouldn't get the fuel delivery ,will try to look next weekend

well the engine management light comes on after 10 to 20 minuets now
and I loose all power , if I coast for about 10 seconds the light goes out
and as soon as I get to 15000 rpm the engine light is on again and no power . so I have striped the same parts off the injection pump as the photos show in the link off Bushwhacker.
ive cleaned the parts and strainers put them back to gether and just the same is happening .
dose any body have any ideas as to where I go from hear . would a Toyota
dealers even want to look at a 17 year old surf
            fault code is 14

ive got all the codes from a download for kzn 185 and code 14 / seams to be anything from blocked fuel filter to engine ecu I have changed all filters
and checked timing control valve for resistance it should read 10-14 homes
my first reading was 9 next couple of readings was 10 homes so its borderline I think.( but who can pin point it better),a new timing control vale is £285 from Toyota a lot to shell out if its not that . recon pump £550 Cheapest ive found. second hand ecu £200 with no guarantee no return .so it could be an expensive way to eliminate . I have read another post about ecu doctor
who can check the ecu for a £35.00 .

Did you clean out that pin hole in the banjo bolt?

yes I did clean that pin hole but it wasn't as big as the one on your bolt or it didn't look like it. a very small needle was required and I mean very small but no cr*p in there
the filters were clean as well surprisingly but i rinsed them in petrol and blew them with compressed air. !!

The only other thing that would restrict the amount of fuel getting to the injectors is a blocked filter on the pickup tube in the tank.

I did wonder if there was an in tank filter / strainer
not with speed but with similar symptoms I get it with a jcb and that is the in tank filter that couses spluttering /no power.
is it possible to get access and clean it . I was thinking of connecting an air line to fuel line and blowing back to tank, if I haven't got access to clean.
                            good idea or not.

couldn't just be the injectors could it
