Rear Window Not Shutting Fully

Hi guys, one of my first posts since purchasing a lovely Surf from babycakes on here. Lately the rear windows won't close all the way to the top, I have taken the rear trim off and siliconed the runners and lubed up all moving parts but unfortunately it hasn't made a difference.

I have noticed that one of the cogs appears to be bent at the end (just to the right of the spring in the picture below).

Does anyone know if this is normal? I have a manual coming from RoughTrax in the new year so next step wil be to properly strip down.

Appreciate any thoughts?

Hi gman, thanks for your reply. No the window wont go right to the top even if it is pushed manually and yes it is the tailgate. I am thinking it might be a missing tooth. Just based in Tingley although my wife is one of the staff at Kippax Sports Centre so you might see the Surf in the car park.

Any thoughts?

Hi Nick,

If the weather improves a bit this weekend,
I'll have a look at my window regulator to see
if that part should be bent or not, one possibility
is the limit switch has moved, also have look in the
window seal right at the top, there maybe something
stuck in there stopping the glass from closing.

It's either the teeth on the motor that drives it - about £50 off eBay for a new one (replaced mine only takes 10mins) or it could be the same as mine at the mo, and be the last few teeth on the mechanism (that the motor drives) in which case, like me y'all need a new mech

Hi guys, right, tried to look at this today but the window wouldn't go down at all. Managed to get in the back and remove the rear motor which looks fine however the rear window regulator mechanism has the first 3 teeth missing as below. Looks like I can get one for £95 from roughtrax but wondered if anyone on here had one for sale or could recommend anywhere cheaper. eBay is looking around £50 including postage and for that I think I may as well get new??

Also, do you think I could fit this with the tailgate shut as it is now or is there anyway I can manually lower the window to drop the tail gate??

I use a strong suction cup to open and close the last inch where the same has happened to mine mate. Gt a feeling it might be a pita job too!

If not, any recommendations for garages around Leeds that specialise in the Hilux?

Thanks for sharing the guides guys. Had a good read through and look at this job and decided it wasn't worth the hassle to do myself. Used my local mobile mechanic who is a good guy and only charges £20 per hour.

Nice to see a new shiny mechanism.

Now sorted and working fine. Thanks for all your advice!
