There's a few nylon/plastic bushes on the linkage that wear out. Replace then all.

Good evening all, same problem here, auto gear stick very wobbly, opened it all up and the linkage is the problem, as Nev said.
Any idea where I can source some replacements washers/bushes?

      Cheers

They are pretty cheap at Toyota (at least they are in Australia).

Have a look here, particularly at Nifty Nev's post with the diagram - the bushes are in a darker, highlighted colour:

What an excellent link, with pics, diagrams and parts numbers...no excuse not to do it now.
            Thanks a lot yorta.
Just like the original post in the link mine went almost overnight rather than gradually.

The post is about a 2nd Gen but I assume it's the same set up for the 3rd Gen? The pics of the shifter and linkage look the same as mine.

            Cheers

How easy is it to replace the bushes with the big bolt..?

Having gazed at it like an idiot, to me it would seem that undoing the linkage underneath (have to to replace the bushes) and then remove the trim around the gear shift, loosen the bolts etc holding it in and lift out enough to access the bolt..? Or have I mis understood or not got the right idea..?

(Mine wobbles and this has made me want to fix it!!
