Offset of 8 or 10 on standard wheels ?

OK, here's a real poser (sic) for the afficionados...

I got a set of 'standard' 4Runnner/surf alloys off ebay, shod with some worn out 265/75/R15s. I'm wondering if the offset is correct, as all of the posts concerning these list them as having 15x7JJ (8) stamped on them, and mine have 15x7JJ (10) on them. Does this mean that they are slightly different, or have a bit more offset ? They look like they have much less offset than the non-standard alloys (roughtrax type) which are fitted, so should stick out less (which the current ones do). I need to get less sticky-out-wheels before i get my collar felt again...

Does anyone have 'standard' alloys with (10) instead of (8) stamped on them?

NB the old ones may be up for grabs if these work, get re-furbed, and shod (freeloader to collect from Edinburgh...)

Offset 8 is standard for 2nd gen alloys.

My '94 has 15x7JJ (8) and offset8 on them and these are factory fitted alloys.

Hi l have 3 sets of toyota alloys with an offset of (-20) they look great on the Surf make it look wider.

From memory I think the jj bit has something to do with the shape of the rim where the bead fits and pretty much every wheel will be the same. And why no comment? - you're not usually so quiet

Yep Roger. J is the rim shape, JJ is slightly different than J I think.

Maybe they are LC 80 series rims. Look the same, same diameter, but maybe the LC has a slightly larger offset. My Standard 2nd Gen Alloys are 8 offset 15x7.

The wheels currently have 31/10.5R15s on. I've seen these wheels on the roughtrax website, and am sure that you'd need wheel arch extenstions to be legal (aka 'widebody'). I don't know how much bigger tyres you could fit on these rims.

That depends on the rim width - any idea what yours are - if 7" then those tyres are the biggest. 33"/35" need a min of 8"/9" rims. My truck has wheel arch extenstions, I think they are the factory ones but seem very wide as the 265/70's on it are well inside the edges.

all i know it the old rims on my cavalier were ET45, the same as audi/volkswagen i just guessed that the letters were the offset...

Got 31 x 10.5 x 15 on my 1990 narrow body as have others and they don't stick out past the arches so if you got the wide body no worries.
