  • Coil springs, how easy job?

I've ordered some new rear coil springs from rough trax for my truck as the back was a bit saggy and very saggy when you towed or loaded the back.

What I'd like to know is how bigger job is it? Is it just a case of compressing the spring and swapping them over? The new ones are 2" taller.

Cheers for any info you can provide.

    cheers

    Hi Ben

I've not done a Surf, but my GV was just a case of jacking up, chassis on axle stands, support the axle, undo shock on the side you want to remove and lower the jack, spring practically fell out.

I'd imagine the Surf is much the same.

Cheers mate, I might have a crack at it this week if I get the time.

      My Mirror on its way?!

      Cheers!

Remember to watch the brake lines don't get over stretched at the LSV near diff

Maybe put a second jack under the side not being removed, should reduce total travel a bit.

Not sure about any model of truck but on a 3rd Gen it is easy.

Jack up truck, remove rear wheels and support on chassis side rails, remove lower shock bolts and the old springs should just come out. I fitted Milner 20% uprated springs and these needed compressing slightly to get them in.
Rear shock are a pain and far harder than just the springs alone, if changing them go get one of those ratchet ring spanners in 14mm with the variable angle head from Halfords.

            Cheers

            Ben

                http://www.toyotasurf.asn.au/techsit...marketsusp.htm

fairly easy with 2" lift springs, no need to compress them.
landcruiser springs need a bit of compressing as they are longer.

make sure you undo brake line and valve so you don't risk damaging the brake hose.

you will need a big jack. i used a truck jack which made it simple.

I had a word with a mate who is an
Agricultural engineer, he is going to fit them next week as he has big jacks and stands and all the gear. My lack of big jacks and stands probably would have made the job a difficult one.
