  • whining from transmission?

    Hi,

I'm getting this whining/clicking noise, I think it's from the transmission. Doesn't happen when accelerating, but it does occur when I'm coasting / at standstill (although not always when at standstill)
I checked the fluid level and it looked fine. It's a KZN130.

Any ideas? I've got a long journey home and I don't want to get stuck on the M3!! It's been doing it for the last 100 miles too.

Unusual for a tranny noise when at standstill, unless its a loose torque converter/flywheel or pump noise.

When you're not moving does it make any difference if its in N or D?

Had a proper listen on the way home - it's not making it at standstill, just when moving. And it's much more prominent when I lift off / cruise rather than accelerate - sounds like a fast clicking / whirring - also sounds expensive

That could be a UJ then, check them and other drivetrain stuff like the front CV's before getting depressed about the gearbox.

Will do. I think I know what I'm looking at (rust mainly) - should I be looking for wobbly bits?

Might take it to someone who knows what they;re looking at I suppose!!
