Reckon on 3 hours labour for a decent mechanic and £50 for parts - ish

I reckon £150 is a reasonable sum. I paid £100 when I couldn't be bothered to do it myself but the guy who did it was a one man band so very cheap labour.

    Cheers

Maybee want to ge the milage checked as the warning light shouldent come on till 100,000 km. either that or ther is a problem with the warning light it's self.
        Just a thought.

Hi, I had a quote for $900 to replace the timing belt and as things are a bit tight at the moment I decided to do the job myself. I found the info right here on this sight in the mechanical forum. Cheers mate

                  £330 for a service + cam belt

                  hello surfers,

                  new member in H.Wycombe, Bucks.

i left my new (to me anyway) surf to get a service and c.belt fitted. i nearly choked when the guy called me and said it would be £330 ( i even gave him the belt but not service parts). it's gonna take him a day and a half.

am i having my eye wiped? anybody know any good surf mechs in the area?

                  lovin' the surf otherwise.........

Don't know any mechs in your area but I would say the wool is being pulled and this mechs must be raking it in at those prices. A day and a half for that yeah right.

I paid £120 for an engine service and timing belt change from a mechanic near Chipperfield in Herts (near Berkhamstead), I supplied the belt, he supplied the filters. This was when I first got the Surf and couldn't be bothered to do the work myself. Should take a reasonable mechanic about 2-3 hours to do total.

                      Cheers

well I got my baby back. the old cam belt looked ok

anyhow, the mech found a radiator leak just below the filler cap at the front on a seam. i think i could get it welded or soldered?

is there much off road action around h.wycombe?

would be good to give it a bash off road, my last company car failed miserably........
