  • Hi there and Help please

Hi. I have had a 2nd gen kzn130 for a month or so. At the weekend there the 4wd drive will not work. The dash light works, noise of a small click and whir noise when button is pushed or 'L4' is selected. Front prop also turns, but no front drive at all. It worked fine the few times I used it before! Checked basics like wires and hoses, but nothing obvious jumping out saying "I'm broken". Could this be more a mechanical front diff isuue?

    Any info would be great.

    Ta. Ryan.

Removed the Warn hubs to check. Things look okay and they are locking/unlocking fine. So then jacked one side at a time, spin the wheel with 4wd off and then push button to engage. Still spins free and prop doesn't move when front wheel is spinning! I'm no mechanic or such, but scratching my head trying to find the fault!

Anyone? Come on, someone with knowledge of the drivetrain must be out there!

How have you identified there's no front drive even though the front prop is turning - have you lifted the entire truck off the ground?

Basically had her sitting stuck on greasy mud and rear wheels just turn. Click of 4wd button and then front prop begins to turn, but no front drive at all. Tried driving back and forwards but this doesn't help. Before the fronts would come into play a second after selecting 4wd and she would become unstuck.

Probably a fault in the vac lines. Maybe try disabling the A.D.D - there's a post by Bushwhacker somewhere about it.

            Here you go.

Cheers. I've checked all vac hoses. They all seem intact and there is pressure in the bottle thing under the bonnet. Would the dash light still go on/off as button or lever is put out and in 4wd? What is the most likely mechanical part to break and cause my problem?

The vacuum pipes operate a sliding fork that makes the driveshafts engage.

Thats why I suggested doing the mod - if you get 4 wheel drive after doing the mod then it's the vacpipes / actuator at fault.

It doesn't take long - I've done it on a mates truck.

I think that is the most likely cause of your problem. I doubt anything is broken,as you haven't been thrashing it off road.

I've just had a read of that mod - it'd be worth doing just as part of the elimination process.

I can only hope for dry weather and give that a try. Hopefully Sunday. I'll let you know the outcome.

Well found my 4wd issues! Removed the add thingy to check that and do the mod while it was off. It was working as should when button was pushed, the fork would move left to right fine. So continued and eventually stripped the front diff case off. Then found this.....

A few other bits fell into the tub I was using to catch the oil. On the look for a replacement diff please. Code is G294. Any info where to find one would be great.

                      Cheers

Just had a word with my younger brother. He now tells me that there was a sudden knock when he was reversing. All off road in a mainly boggy part of a wood, so not on tarmac. All I can think is that he may have wound the transmission up prior to turning into the wood? There is a small section of dirt track of a few hundred yards long. Then like 100 yards into the wood he was doing a sort of 3 point turn and it happened then! he was in L4 when it happened.
