Tailpipe position

A few weeks ago some pillock parked behind me and his car rolled into the back of the truck, I saw him go into the shop so I followed him to tell him what happened, he then replied oh shit my hand brake dont work. As it was a little knock I didnt take any notice of it but on cold day I noticed the amount of smoke coming from underneath, I had a quick peak and the tailpipe had snapped from the rear box.

Now to stop this happening again I was going to relocate the tailpipe but am unsure of where would be suitable, infront or behind rear wheel or at an angle under the running boards?
