  • 4WD Problems

So i have a 1989 Surf SSR Limited. 2LT standard.

Now when i first got the truck the 4wd stick button was removed and routed to a toggle switch by the 4wd module. Now id go in the back country and flick the switch and the 4wd light would come up and id have 4 high. Now i fick the switch and nothing. No click or light and still sittin in 2wd. I can get 4 low obviously by just shifting the stick up but 4 high just won't engage for some reason. Now i'm not really sure on how the 4 high button and electrical works on these trucks so if anyone could help me thatd be great.

    Cheers

If 4L is working you can rule out most of the gubbins, as the lever works the solenoid electrically same as the switch to actually engage the 4WD.

I'd start with the new switch and the wiring to and from it.

So what you're saying TonyN is that since the 4L is working by shifting of the lever, that rules out the solenoid and the 4wd ECU being the culprit?

Therefore i should rewire and get a new switch for the 4H engaging?
