my 1st tread my first surf

Hi I desperately need help, I bought a K plate 93 2.4 efi surf that was in a state mechanically and although Im a pretty good mechanic I need help,unbeknown to me when I purchased the car it has had a conversion away from efi which diddnt work properly, so I decided to put it back to efi which is where I want to be, only problem is I think I have parts missing, thanks to ebay I managed to purchase an efi pump and an inlet manifold and thanks to this site i downloaded a diagram of the vacumm pipes but my motor still dosnt run right, it smokes (unburnt diesel fuel with knocking from hydralicing) I believe the problem could be because I have no idea what else is missing and today found two multiplug connections near the aoto box dip stick, Im hoping that these are connected to some vacum switching but Im now guessing.
What I would love if poss is some photo imaging of this area and what these two connectors fit to, both are brown and one is lighter in colour than the other.
