  • Hand brake light stays on!! Help please

Hello people. Just a quick one. I went to play in some big muddy holes with lots of water!! Since then my hand brake light kept coming on and off randomly. Took the rear drums off cleaned the equivalent of America out of them, adusted the shoes while I was there as the hand brake wasn't too special and now the light stays on all the time! Both wheels spin freely once on a jack, shoes have plenty on them too! Any ideas?
    Cheers people

Check your brake fluid level, the light has nothing to do with the rear (or front ) brakes themselves.

The light on is either the headbrake lever not seated properly when off, low fluid or low vacuum to the servo.

Check the fluid level and top up if needed. If light is still on disconnect the wiring to the sensor on top. If light now stays off, then the sensor is faulty. If it stays on, check handbrake switch adjustment. Unlikely to be vacuum but do this test anyway.

With engine off, pump brake pedal a few times, then hold brake pedal down. Start engine and if the pedal drops as vacuum takes effect, then that is not the problem.

Mine has the same problem. It failed the MoT because the pads were supposedly low, they weren't but the MoT inspector decided that the light on the dash meant they must be.
