help needed please

hi all,need something answered as its doing my head in,this dosent happen every time but more often than not when i go from park to drive i get a slight clunk from the rear almost like im being hit,its not a massive clunk but enough to make me wonder what it is,this only happens from p to d when im at a stop any ideas please is this normal on a old surf? its a 1992 2.4td many thanks in advance adrian

Isn't that just the truck going in to gear?

Do you use the parking brake?

Is the propshaft properly greased?

im guessing when it goes into gear its not supposed to be that harsh? i dont use the parking brake as its pants,ive greased up all joints props ect as thats what i thought it was but its still doing it, its best described as this from park i select drive and as i do it feels like im being hit from behind,not totally smashed but bumped with some force,it is a old truck but it just dosent seem right to me any help would be really good thanks

If the truck is on the parking pawl and you stick it in gear, it'll jolt.

Fix the parking brake. Put the parking brake on before you select Park, then (with the parking brake still on) see if it still jolts when you put the truck in gear.

ill give that a go now,when i said parking brake is pants i didnt mean broken just ment i dont trust them to work so dont really use it,anyway ill see how that works and post result thanks adrian

job done and thank you,kept the park brake on and didnt have a big jolt this time only very slight one,so very happy as my money can stay in my pocket thanks for the help regards adrian
