Kia Ora from your resident NZ reader..! Im a loooonnngggg time reader and first time poster, this place is a godsend of information eh!

First up i am the proud owner of a matt black 1990 ln130 2lt surf and i love this thing to bits! Got it as a project about 4 months ago and am slowly building it up to what i hope will be a mean machine...once i get all the basics covered anyways.

Im hoping that with all the knowledge around here someone might be able to help me with one of the most simple things ever....i cant remove the lower dash trim on the drivers side due to not knowing how to undo the faffing idler adjustment screw from the plastic? ive tried all sorts and the sucker just does not seem to want to move, does anyone know how i can get it off please? Im trying to replace the front speakers...which should be a simple enough job but with this thing in the way is near impossible :/

Also has any installed 6x9's in the rear? if so what approach did you take? In mine one of the previous owners has just hacked at the plastic and screwed in what looks like a 6-6.5" speaker so im thinking of cutting out a bit more and chucking in some 6x9's to get a bit more bass going, has anyone else done this and were you happy with the results? Im not willing to put an amp + subs in the back as the truck is used to haul stuff around a bit...and i also like chucking a mattress in the back of it and taking off for the weekend for a cheap getaway!

Now for a mechanical type question.....the hard/soft suspension light on my dash has stopped working...im not sure if its just the light blown or if the suspension electrics has pooped out, is there a way of easily telling whats wrong? Like if i flip the switch and look at the suspension should i be able to see something move??

Think thats about it for now, any and all help would be greatly appreciated!

Mine has grey painted wood all inside the sides of the load bay with cut-outs for the storage compartments the speakers are fixed to that.

If it's not working then it's possible someone has changed the OE electrically adjusted shocks for non-adjustable ones. To check, have a look under the wheel arches at the top of the shocks. If there is a lump of metal on top with wires coming out then they are probably still OE and maybe the bulb on the dash has blown. If not, then they've been replaced and the H/S button will be surplus to requirements.

6"x 9" fitted in the back using the original cubby holes.

i cut a piece of mdf same size as the plastic bit and fitted the speakers. i filled the boxes with sound mat to stop the panel vibrating.

sounds ok and doesnt take up any of the load space

Thanks but it still has the originals on there, it was working when i first got it but seems light the lights have pooped out as the 4wd light is not coming on either but i hear the click of it doing its thing! Will search out how to take the dash apart and replace the light, the speedo cable is being a bit of a douche at the moment as well and does an annoying spinny rattly noise and likes to jump +/-10km sometimes so really should look at that.

Hmm nice, i like how easy that looks but the previous owner of mine seems to have taken a dremel/drill to the plastic grill the was covering the stock speakers and then just screwed a 6" speaker into it. Going to tidy that up a bit i think and try fitting some 6.5" kickers to give it a bit of unf.
