Ticking sound from engine/clutch 3.0td

Hi, I write from Italy, (scusme for my english...)
I have a Hilux Surf 4Runner 3.0td 1kz-t model year 1995.
It's in very good condition, 250.000 km, engine and mechanical works very good,injection ok, valves ok..!
only this ticking sound that I listen whit the passenger window down.
Tick-tick-tick arrives from the down of car mostly, inside the clutch-zone I think..
at cold and hot, is cyclical to the RPM, and the tick DON'T disappears or change when pedal clutch is pressed!!
we have thought at the spring of the clutch.. but other people that have a noise in the clutch when pressed it the noise disappears..

I have read some thread here, but I don't have any idea..

I watched the video you posted and I have exactly the same noise and It's driving me crazy. My truck is in exellent condition too and I have this annoying ticking when the engine is under load. The noise remains even with clutch pushed to the floor and revving in neutral. Please write me if you find out what causes the noise. I keep on investigating further.

check the bolts on both the exhaust manifold and where the manifold joins to the turbo, It could just be a slight blow from one of these areas

sounds like an exhaust blow to me as well - a split or loose manifold gasket can make that sound, check the flange where the downpipe meets the manifold as well

Exhaust leak was my first thought too but as Ste981-ITA said it definately comes from the clutch area. I can hear it by listening to it from underneath the truck. By listening to the exhaust manifold I can't hear the ticking noise.

DMF (Dual Mass Flywheel) breaking up?

Dual Mass Flywheel not exist in Toyota 4 runner...
I will check in best way the manifold exhaust... but I don't think it arrives from there!!
Ok, the noise is near the turbo, exhaust, manifold, (only from the passenger side)
but from under the car is listened more and arrives from inside the clutch-zone!
now, after 13000 km noise is not changed is always equal!

Yes.. exactly the same noise I have. I would say it must be some kind of a clutch related problem. The constant ticking is very annoying. I don't have a surf but an MK3 Hilux pickup and as far as I know it has a DMF. Are you sure your surf has a solid flywheel ?

try the old screwdriver or piece of wood trick

touch the wood to the bellhousing and stick yer ear on the other end. move it around until you hear the noise clearly. youll be surprised how accurate it is at finding exactly where the noise is.

if its not in the clutch area keep trying until you find it

I have already try this method... with long screwdriver and hose&funnel but I don't find the noise...

I think, rather, I am sure that the noise ticking arrived from the clutch!!
Now, at 1000 round/min. (when the ticking is light) if I little pressed the pedal of the clutch, the ticking increases some (few) of volume !!!

Mine also reacts to pushing the clutch pedal in. Sometimes it makes the ticking more emphasized. There must be something going on in our clutch assy. The strange thing is that mine does't make a noise until I drive about 2-3kms. But then it starts ticking like crazy.

Surfs have DMF 4 Runners do not.

And roughtrax sell a clutch kit to return a Hilux surf to 4 runner solid flywheel spec.
