  • Is this normal?

I've been experiencing reasonably poor MPG lately, so I decided to have a look for leaks in the fuel line. It looked all ok, but while under there I noticed that my front driveshaft seems to be haemorrhaging (diff?) oil. It's liberal enough to have splattered my gearbox, although I hadn't noticed any spots on the drive. It's a 3rd gen, so it does have a centre diff, not sure if that's relevant or not....

Should I be concerned? Also could this be potentially linked to my poor MPG?

    Help!

Are you sure that's diff oil? It looks the wrong colour to me, presuming the photo colour is realistic. Looks more like the mayonaise type stuff you get under the oil filler cap of an engine that never gets hot.

Thats nothing to worry about really, it's most likely been over filled with grease at some time. Just wipe it off and monitor it over the next few days to see if it comes back.
It has nothing to do with your poor MPG, but using AWD on the road will.

Check you tyre pressures, should be at least 30 psi.
Check the air filter is clean.
      Don't use the ECT button.
Remove roof bars/racks if not being used.
Wear lighter shoes or put some drawing pins inside the right one and brake with your left foot.

        Good tips.
I would add only to choose routes that are downhill, and only take left turns - this saves waiting for oncoming traffic.
Follow this advice after a few years you should find yourself at the seaside which is where you want to be when you retire anyway, so you saved yourself another trip.

As vince said, nothing to worry about.
Mine was the same when I first got it & after a wipe it was sorted, although it does do it every year but only because I re-grease everything once a year.
If its not broke don't fix it.
