Yeah I noticed after I posted, I was tired.

You say you replaced the inner and outer bronze bushes, was that both sides?

OK, can't do anything this weekend, Basingstoke Kite festival, I'll be drunk, or running over people in kite buggy all weekend.

This is a long shot but, Do you think it could be the loose nut behind the wheel????

                      re

I had a rattle that drove me to distraction, after many, many months of trying to figure out what it was I finally found it!

It turned out to be the TURBO HEAT SHIELD that had worked its way loose and was rattling against the steering column!

So, with the Surf it could be something wierd and wonderful and in my experience it often is!

                      Happy hunting!

                      G

mine rattles like this too, i just cant be arsed to put the bolts back in after all the problems ive just had with it. also another thought which could be your rattle, if your exhaust has the heat shield on the down pipe, and the clamp has come loose that gives a nice rattle which drove me barmy.
                        all the best.

                          Annoying rattle

Steve, just done my front bronze bushes ( 7 out of 10 sod it value)and it is now as quiet as the grave at the front.
Quick test and easy to do.

You can jack it up and remove the wheel if you want,or lie on the floor, reach round behind the wheel and grasp the c.v. joint(rubber boot area) where it goes into the back of the hub assembly. You may be able to jiggle it (technical term) in any direction, matters not.Movement = wear,If it rattles/makes a tinny sound then thats your problem, bronze bushes-£66 +vat from Milners, and in my case about 50 pairs of rubber gloves.I like rubber!!I I also purchased free wheeling hubs but couldnt get them to fit so took them back, the securing bolt and washer wouldnt engage with the thread in the end of the c.v.joint so will look round for another make as that nut and washer is a must on refit.if you do bushes check end float of c.v.shaft,Alan

as said first post mate - bronze bushes done

guys, its not a little rattle like something tapping something else - its like the whole front end is loose - its ###### loud..

i've had the loose fan shrough, the loose bumper rattle they are constant and niggly, this happens on bumps and is really loud - plus the knocking through the cab

I cannot wait to get the answer to this thread!!! I have the same problem

i`ve changed droplinks, arb bushes, bronze bushes, pads ,trackrods inner/outer,idler arm, balljoints.

i have no play in the wishbone bushes and no play in the cv joint and the front end still rattles. It sounds like n/s/f?

Until this thread came up i was just gonna wait for it to break lol
GRAVITY IS A MYTH THE EARTH SUCKS!!!
