  • Did all Surf's come factory with running boards?

As the title states, I've removed the running boards and I'm trying to find molded mudflaps to fit on the front, but I'm having zero luck finding anything. The US/Canada guys with Limited trim 4runners use a certain aftermarket style that can be trimmed to fit, but when I tried I found the flares are very different and they wouldn't work for me. I've been trying to find pics of a Surf with an OEM front mudflap, but every picture I've found shows running boards, very strange. Did ALL 3rd gen Surf's come with running boards, or are they just very popular?

I may end up having to go with a flat style, but I'm hoping that's not the case. Anyone on here put front mudflaps on their 3rd gen that could share pics or details?

nah, all have running boards, most us 4runners are narrow body though, so mud flaps are different on a wide body Surf to fit with the wheel arches.

Well that answers one question. The US spec 4runners I was comparing to are the Ltd. trim widebody ones, but the flares aren't the same it would appear, seems odd. Has anyone here pulled the running boards off and added mudflaps? Can you post pics?

      Thanks TonyN for the response!
