  • 3rd Gen Tailgate Gas Struts

Anyone know of an aftermarket strut I can use that's available in the UK?

the T4R.org forums speak of the Strongarm and Monroe units but neither of these can be found in the UK. Spoke to Monroe, lady says they don't do them anymore.

They are on Amazon.com (the US one) but, thanks to dodgy ticking printer cartridges of late, they won't ship to the UK.

    Gah!

    Any recommendations?

You could buy from US with a forwarding address - for e.g. MyUS:

Buying from online stores in the USA is easy with the help of MyUS.com!
You receive a real US street address in Florida.

Checked them to see what they can do....

      Struts are $38 on Amazon.com +
$10 signup fee for MyUs +
$41.06 MyUSshipping on the struts (assuming they weigh a pound each) +
      Their personal shopper fee 5-10%

      Whereas on ebay.com

      $44 for the struts
      $32.50 shipping to UK

Just wondering if anyone knows an alternative new part that's the same fit.

Genius Vince, thanks for that. They are 15 mins away. Or, with the price of diesel these days, 2 hours

            http://www.sgs-engineering.com/pages...ta/range/Hilux

The part number is slightly different, they have 2K106WH92 whereas, in the fading light, I think mine are 2KG16WH92. We'll see. Worst case scenario is they re-gas them.

Also - The T4R.org site says they can be fitted without taking the brackets off, but they have rubber grommets between the Clevis ends, whereas mine have nowt.

Went to see them @ lunch. Their part IS different, clevis ends are much bigger (wider) than stock Surf. Re-gassed my old ones (to 800N), no better, so the conclusion is that the piston(s) is(are) shot internally. I am getting shut of both old ones anyway.

They are fabbing me some up this affer using my existing clevis ends, will let you know if they work and if anyone else is in the same boat, what invoice number to quote to get the same part for themselves.

Regas is £12.50 a strut, £10 fitted. You don't need to unbolt the clamps; just slide the clip off the bolt top and bottom, the bolts come out, and the strut comes straight off (1 min job each end).

Bill will be £87 for 2 custom struts fitted. After a day's worth of googling, I can't see another way around doing the same if you don't want to do ebay from the US, which would cost around the same and take x amount of days.

And to save you a day's worth of googling, Betty from Strongarm says these resellers WILL ship to the UK (Amazon won't):

              www.liftsupportsdepot.com

              www.partshighway.com

They are on Ebay.com, from seller "mrlousstuff" $44 but IIRC the detail he can't ship to the UK either (the problem has arisen after those ticking printer cartridges got sent here).

                Marvelous.

Mine work OK, I just wish they were longer to push the tailgate up higher so I don't have to duck each time.
