Hi guys, hopeing someone can help
My 4-runner has developed a problem with steering, at high reves steering works fine but at low revs or no revs power steering slowly dies giveing me no form of control, have crashed it twice due to this problem so desperate to get sorted. is there a quick fix for steering pump?

I don't know the history or how much you have looked into it so far but check belts and fluid first.

After that it's likely to be the pump so try the breakers on here and then maybe Roughtrax?

Sorry I can't be any more help.
I've got a plan and it's as hot as my pants!

the whinnin noise is the pump most likely..the bearins inside could have got a bit damaged from it runnin low on ps fluid which would cause a whine

It normally whines when low on fluid or airlocked, if it ran out you might have gubbed the pump, try turning the steering from lock to lock now you've topped it up, if may take 10mins or so.

Roughtrax do a seal kit of the pumps if its leaking.

If this dosn't work buy a good used pump off me!

lol, I ment keep turning it from lock to lock. It digs nice holes in the drive.

You can do it with the wheel up in the air for less strain on steering stuff and floor.

Turn it off and let the level settle now and again, and if everything is ok it should work.

                    NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO OOOOOOOOOOOO.

THE FACT YOU RAN IT LOW ON FLUID IS WHY IT WHINES NOW. fill it up, jack it up a bit, and start the engine. Turn it lock to lock about 30 times then let it down and try it. If its still phuqed...buy tonys pump.

I have the same whining sound during steering and this happened after a radiator PS Fluid cooling ribs meltdown.
Maybe I need to do what Tony has suggested.

This is an awesome read! thank you for the help everyone!
