  • Drum removal

I have a 3.0TD 1993 and am having real difficulty removing the drum on the rear brakes.
I have a manual, I have released the tension on the handbrake cable under the car and tries to releases the adjuster inside the drum on the backplate - to no avail. I have also sprayed the studs as they come theough the drum with lubricant but the drum will NOT budge!

Can anyone help me out withsome tips?

Yes. You should see two threaded holes on the drum ( 10mm I think) You can jack the drum off by screwing appropriate bolts into them.

Thanks for that. I will try it and hope that works! You're a STAR.

Mine wont come off either and as the threaded holes are no longer threaded I've decided that they can stay on until such times as we get grinding noises or they fall off.

Don't just blindly try to jack the drums off, you could end up splitting them between the jacking holes and the centre. And make sure the adjusters are wound right back before you start, no avail is useless, it has to be done.

Spray some release oil on to the boss in the half shaft a day or so before you want to remove the discs. Then, when you start jacking them, hit the edge/corner of the drum to 'shock' the drumm free.
Do you know that, with a 50 character limit, it's

Ok, But what is the best way to release the shoes before the brums come off? The adjuster doesn't seem to be doing anything. I'm probably doing something wrong I know...
