New owner 4WD Blues !!!
Hi everyone, this is my first post, hope someone can help me out. I bought a 1996 surf 3.0 L ssrx in mint condition, 80000 miles and well looked after, everything working perfectly except..... no 4WD !!. Being new to 4wd never thought to check, my own fault. Took the surf to a local 4x4 specialist to do a diagnostic, together with an auto electrician, so far....
1. 4WD button on transfer lever has power but no effect when pressed
2. Vacuum pipes to vsv are fine but no electric power to 4wd side
3. No dash lights at all
4. power to 4WD ECU ( located under passenger kick panel) is ok
5. No effect when transfer lever moved, no dash lights
6. Applying power to small motor on transfer box will put the car in 4wd and engage the front prop shaft as normal, but still no lights on dash. so it will go in and out of 4wd but only manually.
7. Auto electrician felt the problem was the 4WD ECU so this was replaced with a new one ( covered by the dealer ) no effect at all, button still ineffective, no dash lights
I know that this has been covered on a few threads but they all seem to relate to 2nd gen surfs without the multi mode box, as a further note there are no relay noises or clicks of any kind, i have tried to find the ADD relay but apart from the one in the ECU itself I can,t find one, I have seen some reference to" fuel pump relay" but its location is a mystery.
Please could someone point me in the right direction as I am losing the will to live, cheers mitch66
