  • 3rd Gen Engaging - Disengaging 4WD On The Move

If I engage / disengage 4wd while in neutral it clicks in and out no problem. However if I engage it on the move it takes a short while to 'lock in'. If I disengage 4wd on the move it can take up to 4 miles for the icon to stop flashing on the dash.

    My questions are:

    1. Is this normal?
    2. Is 4wd still engaged while the icon is flashing?
    3. Could it be a sticky solenoid and how would I check?
4.This didn't happen when I tested it before buying so could it be due to the freezing weather? (I'm clutching at straws here folks!)

Thanks in advance for any advice given.

Pretty normal really. I've found that the more you use 4WD, the quicker it engages/disengages. Foot off the gas when you press the button so that the gears can mesh easily.

You can leave it in 4WD by the way, it's the same principle as AWD.

Once again you have proved to be the font of knowledge, Vince. I did leave it in 4wd when the roads were really bad but now I sometimes just engage it on steep slippery bits!

It only has road tyres on and I really miss the GG AT2's I had on the 2nd gen, but I can't justify spending over £500 on 5 new ones at the moment as the road tyres are practically brand new and I haven't been stuck yet.

Thanks again for the advice mate, I appreciate it.
