Hi!
Had the same symptoms as you reference no sustained hot air. I posted about it on another one-make forum.
I flushed and reverse flushed my matrix - a bit of dirty rubbish came out but the result was cold air still.
I took the matrix out (a pain), drained it and poured in caustic drain cleaner. I didn't leave it too long as I didn't want it to eat the Aluminium tubing. I then flushed and reverse flushed again:
Looks good doesn't it? Good flow through it, but then it did before!
Refitted it (a pain) and guess what? Still no not air!
I ordered a new matrix, took the original out again (a pain), and popped the end caps off to see what was going on:
Nearly every transverse tube was blocked! mostly solid iron corrosion but also silicone gasket glue (I'd never used any white stuff either!) Notice also that the black rubber gasket that separates the tubes had also been pushed aside in many places. The water flow had been just taking the path of least resistance (as it will) so the flushing had had minimal effect - If a tube is blocked water will not flow through it during "flushing"
I must add, this was not on a Surf. The Surf heating, when functioning correctly is roasting!
If roasting is not hot enough, try this modification:
It raised the output temperature on my other car by nearly 10 degrees!
