  • What suspension do different Generations have?

    I've used the search function but can't find anything definitive.

    So, what suspension do various models and generations have? I've heard talk of leaf springs, coils and torsion bars.

    1st gen - Leafs (I think) and laterly leafs and torsion bars
    2nd gen - Coils and torsion bars
    Turd gen - Coils

        It's not the torsion bars that cause the articulation problem, it's the IFS. There are a couple of ways to increase the ride height, winding up the torsion bars is one method. BJ spacers is another.

          I've seen a replacement torsion bar which gives a lift. Are these any good?

              You can get a lift from any torsion bar, but as stated, the IFS is the limiting factor. Too much lift and you have no downtravel, because the upper arms will be sitting on the bumpstops.

                  Ok, thanks chaps.

                  So I take it that it's an easy enough job to lift the rears 2"+ but a nightmare to lift the front more than 2"?

                    if you want good alignment on the front 1 1/2 - 2" is the most, any more and it starts getting difficult, but not impossible.

                    unless you get a proper 4" suspension lift, then its easy, but expensive.

                        about £1k.



                        It relocates the whole front diff and wishbones 4" lower, so you keep all the stock factory tracking and suspension geometry, same for the back axle.

                        Down side is initial cost, upside is our 33's have 30k miles on them now and still wearing smoothly, and truck handles just like factory setup. (Heavy tyres and no ARB's aside, but you don't have to remove them if you don't want)
