  • getting hot

hi was wondering if anyone can help? i have a 3.0 ssrx when going uphill you can smell a hot/burning,dirty water smell .the engine is below 3000 rpm. the temp gauge is not going past normal operating temp and the problem does not happen on the flat at the same sort of rpm. does any one know the answer????

The temp guage in your truck is absolutely useless don't rely on it. I'd do a coolant and tranny oil change, flush the cooling system after taking stat out, fit new stat and refill with fresh coolant. Overheating on these is lethal, new heads are expensive, I've just fitted one, changed/replaced oil in viscous fan, new stat, rad cap, aftermarket temp guage and transmission oil cooler to try to prevent it happening again, and, I smelled no burning and according to the stock guage, no overheating. Take preventative measures now or you'll be truckless. H

Have you got a coolant leak? Could even be one of the heater matrixes (matrices?) losing water.

Check for damp carpets, front and back footwells. If not, check pipes under the bonnet and the rad for pinholes weeping coolant.

You wouldn't normally get that 'hot and damp' smell unless coolant is escaping somewhere - or your bird is in the truck with you.
