  • Driving Without 1 Front Shock?

    Hi All,

Getting a really bad clicking/rattling sound from the front offside area.

I think one of my NEW shocks may be faulty.

Is it ok to remove this and take it for a 'small' test drive just to confirm?

    Cheers,

    Gary

Just swap the front shocks left to right and vice versa and see if your noise moves with it. Safe and easy.

God it's only a shock adsorber, not gonna kill him if he just has a slow drive around...
            Nissan Patrol for on-road, and a Land-Rover 110 shed for off-road :-)

It's a damper, the torsion bar is the shock absorber.

But you're right, bash on, it's not as if it's an important bit.

It'll be virtually undrivable with a shock missing, at anything more than snails pace, especially on a front wheel.

Its not the sort of thing you want to do on a public road.

Tell me about it! I broke one in Wales once (bust a seal) and the trip home was a bit scary even though it still had a slight damping effect.

Also drove a Starion Turbo with no rear shocks on an airfield perimeter track once... alright on the straights, but cornering...

                    Re

                    I ain't gonna do it!

Public opinion seems to make it a silly thing to do!

Got a new one arriving today, touch wood, so everything should be ok!

When I was replacing the rear springs last year I had to move the Surf a few meters for some reason and it was VERY wierd!

                    Sort of like a boat/spaceship.

The back was bouncing up and down like a spaniard's honeymoon bed!
