  • New Disks - Is This Normal?

    Hi All,

Just fitted brand new disks and pads.

When I spin the hubs it seems as if both disks are uneven/warped?

The pads aren't bedded in yet but upon slowly spinning the hubs one full revolution I get sort of, spin free, spin free, spin free, scraaaaape, spin free, spin free, spin free, scraaaaape. (you know the idea!).

There deffo seems to be a part of the disk that is uneven.

The reason for this dumb question is it is happening with both disks!

Could I have been sent some dodgy disks or is this some kind of event that happens before bedding in?

    Concerned!

    Thanks,

    Gary

When you say it scrapes, is it a metal to metal scraping?

Did you clean the faces on the hub and seat the discs properly? Also, check the backplates, that may be catching the disc as you spin it.

I'd be very surprised if there's a fault with one or both the discs.
Do you know that, with a 50 character limit, it's

Make sure you havn't bent the back plates so they are rubbing on the disc.

Take it down the road and see how it goes, if they are warped you'll feel it through the brake pedal, otherwise its probably fine.

        Re

The hubs were wire brushed to the metal before fitting and the backplates aren't near the disk.

It definately sounds like brake pad against metal scraping to me!

I suppose the only way to be sure is to take her for a run but I'm stuck until the track rods arrive, hopefully tomorrow!

Bit of a bummer if the damn things are warped however unlikely it is.

        Thanks!
