    Hi all,

I'm changing the N/S ball joints on my surf and have had a few problems!

I managed to snap the bolts/studs on the top one, the new one (from Roughtrax doesn't come with any) - is there any reason why I can't use normal bolts instead? the size is M8 - I've got some and some nylock nuts.

(Stormforce, this is why i was trying to contact you earlier, got your number saved now!)

I'm also looking for confirmation on the torque settings, according to the Max Ellery manual (page 294) should be:

Ball Joint attaching nut: 142nm (if they are the 4 at the top, I think this is very wrong)
Upper suspension arm ball joint nut: 142nm (castle nut - possibly right - although seems a bit high?)
Lower suspension arm/ball joint and bolt and nut: 58nm

    The Haynes says (pg 10A-2):

upper balljoint to upper suspension arm: 30nm (sounds good? for 4 at top)
upper balljoint to steering knuckle: 108nm (castle nut)
lower ball joint to lower suspension arm: 127nm (sounds high)
Lower ball joint to steering knuckle: 142nm (castle nut)

What should the top 4 ball joint to suspension arm bolts be?
What should the Top castle nut be?
What should the bottom 4 bolts/nuts be?
what should the bottom castle nut be?

sorry for the essay but i want to get this right

Thanks Wishbone, Looking at that picture they should be:

      Both Castle nuts: 142NM
      Top BJ nuts: 33NM
      Bottom BJ bolts/nuts: 58NM

Does that sound good to anyone?

I got roughtrax ones about a month ago and they came with the studs. They weren't inserted though, had to use the vice and hammer to seat them. Have you checked the box and bag to be sure? Might be worth ringing roughtrax, as the studs make access much easier.

Mine last year also came boxed n included new Nuts n Bolts, maybe worth letting Roughtrax know there were no nuts & bolts included !!
