  • Vibration after 2" suspension lift

    Hi guys,

I have fitted +2" springs on the back of my truck and adjusted the torsion bars to match the lift (only 1 1/2" as recommended). In the process the rear ARB link pins sheared so I decided to run without one, which i was considering anyway.
My issue is that the truck has now developed a vibration. This occurs at 20 kmph up until 40 kmph, after that the vibration dissappears. It vibrates wether it's in 4WD or 2WD and is worse under load.
I'm guessing that at least one of the UJs is shot but it seems from my searches that UJ troubles are generally more recognisable at a higher speed not at lower speeds as in my case.
Is it likely to be the UJs regardless?
Or would it be more likely that it could be a CV joint issue?
Thanks in advace for your help.

could be either, check the UJs first, its easier, if they are ok remove the drive plates on the front hubs to stop the drive shafts going round and try it again.

did you remove the props at all..??

when i got mine i gave it a good greasing..split the rear prop on the sliding joint to clean and re-grease. Although i'd marked up the UJ's I neglected to do the same on the slip joint, I have a slight vibration at around 18-24mph now.

I don't know if it's the same with these new fangled Surf things, and to be honest I can't be arsed going to look, but in the olden days the propshaft grease nipples used to line up, that made it easy to realign a prop after cleaning or maintaining it.
Do you know that, with a 50 character limit, it's

yeah, if you get the slip joint wrong it vibrates like hell, the U shaped bit of the UJ holes on the prop should be on the same plane looking along it.

Thanks for that guys, ordered a couple of UJs today and will fit them when they arrive, thought it best to replace them regardless seeing as they have probably been on the truck it's whole life, fingers crossed that solves the problem....

I'll let you know how i get on.
              Thanks again
