Just to help a novice out would you care to explain how?

From what I can make out, once the hubs are in free wheel mode, they only spin on the bearings in the free wheeling hubs. Like I said, I'm a novice, so how are the original bearings being used?

Just found this thread which might help
          http://www.hiluxsurf.co.uk/showthread.php?t=60178

Your swapping out a part the fixes to the hub which locks the drive shaft.Once the fwh hub is fitted it has a brake type system which when unlocked allows the complete hub to turn and when locked will lock the hub to the shaft. The wheel bearings still need to be fitted in the hubs else the hub will fall off
