  • Hello... Help... ?

    Hi chaps,

I've always had 4x4's usually petrol, the '92 LN130 surf auto I have recently bought is my first diesel. I'm quietly impressed...

I have a few minor issues with the baby but something I might need advice on is a smokey issue... I have searched thru the forums and found loads of advice which has been a godsend. This weekend, (only had the surf 2 days) I got stuck in. The EGR vavle is now blocked, The turbo is boosted using 2x 1.3mm washers, and the compensator is adjusted up 1/4 turn on the injector pump. However, whilst accelerating hard, the neighbourhood, (and 3 lanes of the M60) experience a blackout. I've put a treatment in the fuel and one in the oil. The smoke is definately not as heavy with these alterations but it's still prominant whilst the engine's under load. There doesn't seem to be a lack of power though, it still accelerates quickly enough and driving round town is usually under 2500 rpm. (OD on, ECT norm,) Any thoughts from the more experienced owners.. (can't wait to get this sorted then I can save money on veg fuel.) ?

    Thanks

    Mike.

      Thanks,
I've just bought it and the gge has stamped the book for the service in september, all filters, oil, etc. etc. They also informed me they had fitted new injectors. I have fuel treatment and oil treatment in (saturday). seems to make it better but still a smokescreen...

Is it black smoke? if it is its over fuelling or not burning properly
White smoke is water = Water getting into cylinders.
Blue tinged smoke = Oil burning
“Do or do not... there is no try.”

Black smoke Defo overfuelling, I have spoken to a friend who has recommended a diesel specialist in Stockport. Gonna have to take it over there I think...

I'll keep posted on how things get on... Did I see a post from an Altrincham surfer needing a good mechanic? Depending on how this chap does...
