  • Axle Weight

Bit of a long shot, but I'm hoping someone may be able to help. I'm in the process of getting my 3rd Gen registered in Finland but need a very specific weight figure. As well as the usual weight or mass figures, they need the axle weight: so the weight at each wheel. Can't find these figures anywhere in the tech specs and Toyota were no help here at all.

Try finding a local motorsport company / team as they will probably have the equipment to measure the corner weight of each wheel (they use it to set up suspension)

The problem appears to not be the measuring, but rather the need to compare with published figures.

Thanks, buddy VZN185 or KZN185. If you find it, can you please post a link to the source, or scan it if it's in a book. They need to know the source of the info.

            For future reference.

I managed to get this info from a Toyota dealer in Osaka and via an importer friend.

            VZN185W

            Classification no. 019
            Front: 960kg
            Rear: 810kg
            Total: 1770kg

            Classification no. 020
            Front: 970kg
            Rear: 820kg
            Total: 1790kg

No-one knew what the difference in classification is. Not even the dealer. I'm guessing it's just spec options.

Think it may be manual and Auto, I have this info in my book, will have a read and confirm.

The only problem with that list is that it relates to a 2.4, and I was after 3rd Gen KZN185 or VZN185. I went to that Aussie site but all their KZN185 links appear to go nowhere...

Anyway, the Surf is now registered so problem solved. In true Finnish style, after spending weeks getting those figures, they wanted an additional figure they failed to previously mention AND the axle weights they wanted were MAX axle weights, not unladen!! I told the guy inspecting the car that after weeks of solid searching, I could say without any doubt that those figures didn't exist. Luckily he was quite helpful and went away with my reams of spec lists and came back with some 'magic' figures :P

Finland has got to be one of the most difficult countries to move to in bureauracratic terms. EU? What EU? Unless you are coming from another Nordic country, you may as well be coming from Russia. And if you know anything about Finnish history, that's not very good... Hard work, but such a rewarding country in the end.
