  • Window removal

I am going to tint my rear windows...
Does anyone have any experience in how easy it is to remove the rear door window... and the rear passenger door windows.
Any information on how easy this is and how to do this would be gratefully received.
    Cheers

Both of the are really easy.

    Rear door.

    1. Wind down window and open door.
    2. Click down the door catches with a screwdriver (2 stops).
    3. Remove the carpet covered trim from the rear door.
    4. remove the metal plate over the window aperture. (6 screws)
    5. Remove the plastic protector carefully - just mastic holding it down.
    6. Wind up the window half way.
    7. Unbolt the window mechanism allowing it to float free.
    8. Remove the wires from the heated rear window element
    9. Unclip the rubber window sealing strip from the outside of the door. If you can't get this out you will need to unclip the door handle mechanism and the door lock button mechanism, then unscrew the handle from the door and remove it, then unscrew the top trim piece from the inside of the door and remove it.
    10. Juggle the window out of it's tracks and pull out of door.

    Passenger windows.

    1. unscrew arm rest (2 screws)
    2. remove 1 screw from door handle plate, pull forward, rotate the clip that holds the actuator rod so that the rod can be removed.
    3. Unclip the inner door panel
    4. drop the window to the bottom.
    5. Pull out the window channel (I seem to a metal extension to the channel that is unscrewed - it's obvious once you see it)
    6. Raise the window to half height.
    7. Remove the bolts holding the window channel to the mechanism.
    8. Turn window at an angle and ease out through the top (towards the outside is easiest.

    Hope that this helps

    Cheers

Good stuff. One piece of very important advice. Don't do it on a windy day and make sure you clean and clean and clean the windows until they are absolutely spotless. When I did mine I thought they were clean but I got quite a few bits of dust under them and consequently it looks total c**p. I'll do it again when I get home from Holiday. It's not that time consuming so it should be completed in 4 or 5 hours total.

Also don't forget lots of the diluted washing up liquid - the more the better, you really can't use too much.

        Cheers
