I need some help please guys . . . Runs fine but trouble starting?

Hi guys, my truck doesn't want to start.

It's always ran and started well, but this last week it seems to need the gas pedal fully depressed and a lot of cranking before it fires, hot or cold doesn't matter so I don't think it's heater plugs and once it's started it runs fine.

It's a 2.4td.

Any suggestions?

yep on top of the filter.Keep pumping it and if it doesn't go hard then its knackered

Finally got round to testing it, it doesn't go hard, have you got one?

And no I'm not lazy, we've just had a baby and been a little preoccupied.

Hi Richard this sounds very similar to what is happening with my truck. It doesn't want to start in the cold or first start; won't start at all today. humph Once started it runs like a dream and starts first time every time. I did notice yesterday that in the fuse box, front driver side there appears to be a fuse missing? something to do with fuel warming? if I remember without going back outside to look. So maybe it's not the glow plugs but the same thing as mentioned in this thread? Any ideas?

Best thing to do is to test the plunger on the top of the fuel filter and if there's no pressure/stiffness after several pumps then it sounds like it is the primer
