  • Rainwater Leak - 3rd Gen

    I have a 1997 R 3rd Gen which has a sodden Passenger footwell!

Having taken the carpet up and feeling behind the sound deadening on the bulk head it seems to be coming from quite high up. I am pretty sure its not the heatermatrix or aircon as it only happens when we have some rain. there is a grommet thru to the engine bay, but i have ruled that out too, seems to be coming from above the grommet.

Is this a common issue with the 3rd gen? Anyone got any ideas?

    TIA.

does it smell like coolant? could be heater matrix leak

ahh - just noted you said only happens after rain

people on landcruiser forum talk to the drain-pipes from the sunroof being blocked and causing leaks
these are small pipes that run from sunroof down through the body pillars to drain out lower down
not sure if 3rd gens have them, but i would think about it

Not got a sunroof, I think i'm just going to have to take the dash out as i cant see anything from the windscreen or bulk head area that could be causing it.

Check the bulkhead seam under the air intake grille where the wiper arms are.
