  • Starting problem

I have just bought another 3.0l and its being delivered on Monday for me.
Its got a starting issue with it that the old owner said started last week.
To start with it started blowing black smoke and its gradually got worse. The thing is it won't start at all now.
I will check the glowplugs etc and fit a new fuel filter and fill it with atf and see if i can fire it up.I'll also blow the fuel lines to make sure there's no blockage in them either.
All that happens while its turning over is blowing the black smoke. Its been suggested that its over fueling.
Anyone got any other ideas. The truck will have a week or so to fire up or its going to become a breaker as i haven't got the time to mess about with it for to long as i need to get money back on the truck
    TIA

    Hi Rich
Does it have EGR?...try disconnecting/blanking off.
    Air filter could be blocked
Turbo problem...excess fuel system stuck...usually controlled by vac pipes from the turbo to fuel pump
    Eng temp sensor fault?

I reckon it doesn't like you rich
does sound , as it got worse over a week, that the pump is overfueling. Do a diagnostic, if it's timer control... Break it
              Non intercooled nothing.

i got the truck home this afternoon.I had to meet the transporter a few mile up the road as he couldn't get the lorry down here.I tried to start it up but its wanting to start but just won't fire.the fuel filter looks as if it hasn't been changed for quite a while so that will be the first thing to change. If that don't work then i'll move onto other things.
i might be getting another 3.0l next week with a blown head so if this truck don't work then i will see about making a decent one out of them both

With the top off the air filter, give it a wiff of brake cleaner/easy start and then try it...may just need that to clear it out and get it running

i have noticed the air filter is bloomin filthy and i don't think its been changed in the 4 years the trucks been in the country and the fuel filter looks just as old aswell.I'm getting the truck to the workshop today so i'll start to look into whats the cause of the non starting.I should think its got to be something simple cause if the truck hasn't been maintained properly then that may all it needs

i put a new fuel filter on and took the old air filter out but i hadn't a 3.0l air filter at the unit.
I did get it to fire up tho but only for 5 or 6 seconds a time but very lumpy and when you put your foot on thethrottle it totally died out
