  • Water Pump/Viscous Fan Stud Question

    Hi All,

What's the score with the studs that hold the fan and wheel thingie to the water pump?

I got my new water pump today and when I was tightening the studs 2 of the ####### things snapped?

I am ###### annoyed, they are cheap crap and made out of really soft metal!

    (Shall be ringing Barry tomorrow!)

Anyhoo, has anyone just used bolts to do the same job?

Has anyone ever used or found anything better to use?

Luckily I have the old studs but I was toying with the idea of using bolts!

    Good or bad idea?

    Cheers!

Maybe you just overtightened them? What torque setting did you use?

That's what I would ask you if you complained to me. So best be ready with answers.

I just used bolts on mine, it's a bit more fiddly, but doable.

      Re

I honestly can say that I didn't tighten them much at all.

Not enough to "over torque" them anyhow!

I could barely get any leverage on the nuts!

When you say "bolts" can you elaborate please?

I personally think this would be a far better way of fastening it and I am thinking of doing it.

I glad that someone else has had the same idea!

      Cheers!

Just 4 short M6 bolts out of my spares box, I think I may even have used titanium ones as they were all I had that were short enough.

          And yeah, thread lock!
