surf wont start

can't get my surf (91 2.4 TD) to fire up and i'm a complete mechanical numpty.
last time it was used it had a bit of green laning abuse, left it for 2 days then jet washed the crap off and hey presto it wont start. starter is turning over as normal but not firing up, have removed diesel filler cap and had a bit of hissing but still wont go any suggestions on what to try next (must be in numpty terms) would be appreciated.

Hi, it sounds like you have air in the filter, check all connections to the fuel filter, if nothing then remove pipe from filter to pump and hand pump it to see if any diesal comes out. if not then you have air getting in somewhere. When i had this problem it was the pickup in the tank, to check remove the return pipe from pump and give 2 quick blasts of compressed air, then turn it over it should start.
Check underneath to see if you disturbed the flexible pipes from tank to copper pipe when you jet washed it.

try pumpimg the top of the fuel filter while someone turns the key or try some easy start

make sure the electrical connector has a good connection on top of the fuel pump.
dunno if you washed the engine bay?
