  • 4WD not working

I know theirs loads of posts about this, but none seem to answer my problem. I have a 2.4td LN130. When I press the 4WD button nothing happens, no relay no vacume, nothing. Exactly same when I put it in the low range. Low range works but no 4WD. All the vacume pipes, plugs wires seem to be intact, checked the wireing from the button to the 4WD computer and thats all good. I noticed it stoped working after i got the glow plugs changed if thats any thing to do with it!!! Where is the 4wd relay? Is there a fuse, and if so where?

    Cheers.

is there power to the solenoid? As I understand it, the light on the dash is switched by the solenoid, not the switch on the gear lever. Therefore if the solenoid fails then the light doeesn't come on even if the power is at the solenoid. Likewise if the solenoid jams in 4wd, the light stays on.

Honestly I dont think there is power going to any thing. By any chance could it be the oil sensor switch behind the gearbox, as iv herd somewhere thats the first place the power goes???

        Hi,

Seems you have the same problem as me. 1 day working next day nothing

Would have thought you would have had some good answers by now, with some ideas as to what it might be.

It would be handy if some one could tell us where this solanord is also where the 4wd ECU is, plus the relay

If you find out any thing let me know, I will also post if I happen to find out any thing. Both in the sh**.

The 4wd ecu is behind the panel below the ashtray or under the panel where the gear selectors are

Narrowed it down a bit... Took apart the electric drive thad engages the transfer cace. No problem in there. Being the fidgity person I am I accedently presed the 4wd button whill dirving at about 100kph and the 4wd light came on with a warning beeper, so that means all the wiring fuses and ecu are all ok. But still nothing when slow or still. Anyone???

Do not know wether this helps, but had my dash to pieces to remove the cluster, while in there removed all the plugs I could find even ECUs. Put it all back together, put her in (N) pressed the 4WD button and low and behold
4wd put her in drive works like a treat. Well chuffed

ADD relay is on the brake pedal bracket. A normal sized black relay marked Fuel Pump Relay.

Why is it marked fuel pump relay? Iv seen that there alright, but i thought that would be for the fuel pump. I did also take it apart and looks all good inside the relay. Is there a fuse?

                    Cheers for the help.

Probably the same relay used for petrol models. Apparently the ADD fuse is included with the gauges fuse in drivers kick panel.

                        Hi Nev.

Iv red through a lot of posts that you have written in and they have being very helpful, also seen some posts of yours in the Aus site. Now I know the sequence from the push of the 4wd switch.

I'v tested all wiring, Only wires that are live is 1 blue and brown going into the 4WD computer and the wire going into the Brown VSV solinoid for disengaging the ADD. Everything else is dead. I also sprayed contact srpay on all connections.

Iv taken apart, examined and cleaned the electric motor to engage the transfer case. Put it all back together. Nothing.

Examined all vacume hoses. All good.

Fuses in the kick panel, all good.

Relay seems ok. Dont really know how to test it.

Im getting nothing when i press the switch, no light or relay, or click from the 4WD computer. When i put it into the low range its the same only there is a relay that clicks beside the fuel pump relay when i do put it into the low range. Other than that nothing. And it used to work perfect, until after i got my glow plugs done, but im sure thats nothing got to do with it...

Cheers for the help. Any more advice is much appreciated...

Have a look down under the intake manifold. There's wires that go to the ADD from the main loom down this side. There's a plug in that area that may be disconnected.
