Noise after 4WD is disengaged

After putting my manual surf into 4wd in the high box (and possibley low box) and then disengaging 4WD I can hear a whurring or whining noise (hard to describe it properly - sounds a bit like a sticky clutch release bearing) but its only after coming out of 4WD so I don't think its clutch related. If I stop the surf and then start it again then the noise is gone. Any ideas?

Sounds like either the ADD actuator or ADD solenoid is sticking.
